


Falling for Fall: McKenzie River Highway Workshop
Workshop Overview:
Join me on a journey along the breathtaking McKenzie River Highway, where we’ll capture the vibrant colors of fall among serene waters. This workshop is perfect for beginners looking to enhance their photography skills while experiencing the beauty of the Pacific Northwest. Along the way, I'll teach you the basics of photography that will get you out of auto and into manual! You’ll learn tips and techniques to capture stunning images of the lush scenery, including cascading waterfalls and colorful foliage.
What You'll Learn:
Photography Skills: Learn techniques for capturing stunning fall landscapes and waterfalls. We’ll cover composing your images, balancing camera settings, and taking long exposures. More advanced techniques, such as bracketing and understanding light exposure, will also be discussed.
Discover Your Style: Learn how to express your unique experience through photography, capturing the emotions and meanings behind your images.
Community Engagement: A portion of the proceeds from each tour will be donated to local environmental nonprofits, giving your photography a purpose!

Dates & Times: Saturday, October 12th, or Sunday, October 13th, starting at 3 PM and ending after sunset (around 7:30pm).
Location(s): We will gather at the Clear Lake Lodge to discuss photography basics and balance camera settings. Next, we’ll visit Koosah and Sahalie Falls to practice composition and long-exposure photography. Finally, we’ll head to the McKenzie River Trailhead for peak fall foliage during sunset, where we’ll learn to shoot in challenging lighting situations!
Difficulty Level: This workshop is accessible to most physical ability levels. I’m recovering from major knee surgery so we’ll take it easy! The maximum hiking distance is 3 miles.
Group Size: Maximum of 7 participants.
What to Bring:
Camera Gear
Camera Body: DSLR or mirrorless camera (e.g., Canon, Nikon, Sony).
Lenses: Wide-angle lens (e.g., 16-35mm) for landscapes preferred, but we will work with what you have!
Tripod: A sturdy tripod for long-exposure shots, especially at waterfalls.
Filters: ND (Neutral Density) filter for long exposure photography.
Extra Batteries: Bring multiple charged batteries or a battery pack to charge on-the-go.
Memory Cards: Extra cards for ample storage space.
Camera Bag: A comfortable, weather-resistant bag for carrying gear.
Lens Cleaning Kit: Microfiber cloths, brush, and lens cleaner (I have one you can borrow!).
Rain Cover for Camera: (zip-lock bags) to protect your gear in case of unexpected rain or mist from waterfalls.
